Kalliopi Tsagari was born and raised on Kalymnos where she finished Junior and Senior High School. She studied Business Planning and Marketing in Athens and Paris. As early as 1983 she turned her interest to tourism when she returned to Kalymnos, her birthplace. For over 25 consecutive years she was in charge of the Oasis Hotel management at Massouri.  Marketing and tourism and, more specifically, alternative tourism, have always been sectors which expressed her personally and interested her professionally.

In recent years, she decided to focus her interest on tourism and traveling. In May 2010, she obtained EOT’s License for her General Tourism Agency under the characteristic name alter Holidays DMC, a name which denotes the business’ dual identity as a tourism marketing and planning company and as a General Tourism agency.

As a Destination Management Company (DMC), alter Holidays, in its capacity as a tourism destination marketing and planning company, specializes in designing marketing products and services. It is systematically involved in researching and studying the new trends in tourism, the markets a destination such as Kalymnos may target, and recording the island’s tourism profile as well as its potential to readjust to new models. By means of recording the island’s particularities, difficulties, shortcomings as well as comparative advantages, the company was inspired in creating project Go Alternative in Greece - 1st Destination Kalymnos.

In December 2012, the project was invited by the University of the Aegean to present its goals at the Tourism Planning, Management and Policy Postgraduate Study Program, School of Business, University Unit of Chios. Since then, the project’s concept has been gaining ground. The project itself continues to receive invitations for presentations and accolades for its flexibility, adjustability, realism, and innovation. In March 2013, the plan entered its implementation phase. Next, a multi-faceted effort began for the project’s implementation on Kalymnos. Its overall appeal among Kalymnos’ local businesses and visitors alike more than it makes up for the effort which continues with vision and new expectations for the immediate future.

As a General Tourism Agency, alter Holidays DMC focuses its attention on small Greek destinations more. Kalymnos is the first such small destination. According to its criteria, alter Holidays DMC considers those small destinations ideal for the development of alternative/nature-oriented tourism: such tourism forms are viewed as the likeliest, most suitable, and most beneficial ones for those destinations. altrHolidays DMC It specializes in planning tourism events (travelling, cultural, and sports). As a Greek tourism agency, alter Holidays DMC chose to develop its identity around a thematic cultural journey of Greece, with special attention to wine tasting interwoven with local cuisine. That is no coincidence: alter Holidays DMC’s extensive knowledge of wine, Greek varietals, Greek products, etc makes the agency ideal for that purpose.
