They all share, to a certain degree, the responsibilities for the project’s collaboration, specializing in different fields. Each has a different role to play.

The visitors - members and cardholders

Visitors-Members can access exclusive privileges. By selecting services offered by the network they directly reward the effort of those businesses for better service quality and, in turn, they are given access to free-of-charge services (rescue), special prices, and more.

The network’s four parts are linked with common goals, mutual interests, and reciprocal benefits.

All network participants are active components of the alternative tourism project Go Alternative in Greece - 1st Destination Kalymnos. They collaborate on the basis of a specific plan to upgrade Kalymnos’ tourism product through the following common goals...

  • Introduction of a new mentality and way of thinking
  • Design
  • Mapping out the destination according to the markets - goals
  • Quality available to visitors
  • New services
  • Enriched Tourism Product (making new professional branches available to visitors; showcasing natural resources and cultural heritage and more)
  • Showcasing new forms of tourism (hiking, fishing, gastronomic tours, pilgrimage tourism, and more) other than climbing and diving

Alter... the characteristic title, comes from the English word “alternative” which alludes to alternative tourism. It shows that the interest of the entire endeavor is turned towards the new trends in tourism, trends which are well on their way to prevailing as a modern phenomenon and as a “new current”.  They constitute the new challenge for the tourism development of small destinations.  In essence, it focuses on those elements which are changing the global tourism landscape and on the ones which need to be changed, reviewed, foreseen, or be created anew so that a specific place may remain or become a tourism destination and claim a prominent place on the country’s and Europe’s tourism map.

The tourism concept is in a phase of redefinition and readjustment to new criteria! The changes are radical ones and have to do with: the developments in technology;  the changes in the way younger visitors think; the public’s new demands as to what they expect during their holidays; the need for independence while traveling; the public’s ability and potential for self-organization; the new choices, needs, and demands; etc.

alternet Greece is a new service for the promotion of alternative tourism in Greece, for planning and showcasing new tourism destinations: it is here to serve a vision! It is addressed to all but it does select using strict criteria.  It adheres to a specific philosophy which it promotes and applies through the framework of regulations and unbreakable stipulations it sets for its members.  It was created with a view to traveling to other Greek destinations as well and to creating an Alternative Destinations Network in Greece.
